Too less time!

Today is the second Sunday of my well-deserved holiday! That means I only have 1,5 week left to enjoy my freedom :( But that's something we better don't think about. Let's have a look what I have been doing the past week.

The holiday started pretty awesome with Macy Gray's concert, which I told you earlier on my blog. My lady friend and concert-buddy had a tremendous time! We expected a lot of Stevie Wonder covers, since it was announced as a tribute concert, but apparantly Macy didn't feel like singing his songs, because most of the time she sang her songs. To be honest I really didn't mind that. I know almost every song of her, so there was a lot singing involved. Her background singers were amazing as well. They both had a great voice and an even better appearance! Oh and by the way, she really knows how to throw a party :)

Last Tuesday and Wednesday we celebrated Christmas of course. Normally we also give each other presents and stuff, but this year we had no christmastree (which I think is very important for the whole Christmas spirit) and therefore no presents as well. Tuesday I went out for lunch with a friend of mine. We went to an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. As you can imagine we enjoyed that a lot! Wednesday I celebrated Christmas at home with my family.

The rest of the days I just enjoyed my little treats, like going to the gym, watching movies, go into town, reading a book and listening to some good music.

King Federer strikes again

This is for sure one of the best points made by Roger Federer in 2012 :) And please notice how amazed Djokovic is at the end of the video..I hope Roger will have an amazing tennisseason in 2013, because the tennisindustry wouldn't be the same without him, no doubt about that!

Freeeeeeeedom!!

Finally, I never thought this day would come. After 4 months of so much effort and work, I can tell you all that my Christmas holiday is starting from this moment on!! These 2,5 weeks are going to be so much fun, cosiness, lots of food and the best of all freedom. For the first time this schoolyear I am able to wake up in the morning, with no obligation what so ever :) I wish you all a blessed Christmas holiday and of course I will keep you posted.

Peace out!

A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special.

This morning I heard the news about Nelson Mandela. He's hospitalized with lung infection! I truly hope he'll get better, because he's such a great men. In general, I think it's very sad that the good old people pass away, because they all wrote history. Whether they contributed to build a nation, fought for human rights, made incredible music or protected their country.

Hold on Nelson Mandela, hold on my friend!

2012: Nothing but music breakthroughs

I don't know how he made this video, but I think it's overwhelming! This video shows how much diversity there is in the musicindustry. We've got so much to chose about, that had forgotten about the greatest hits early this year, like 'Somebody that I used to know' and 'part of me'. I suggest to sit down and relax :) Do you recognize all songs?!

Robin Hood?

Robin Blood

You gave us the toughest choice ever.
The choice between you and our mother.
Giving us that choice wasn’t very clever,
cause your ultimatum killed my brother.
Although he’s eating out of your hands,
doesn’t mean that he truly understands,
what kind of beast you actually are.

You made my trust in people fade away.
Gave me no reason to hear you out and stay.
You didn’t even give me the chance to reply.
All you left me are strange tears to cry.

Just give it up.
Stop bribing me with money.
Stop acting like you are Robin Hood.
Especially when you don’t understand the story.
He doesn’t steal from his own blood.
He is the sun that rises in all its glory.
But you, you are pitiful and rude.
I will never stand by your side again.
As long as you strive this attitude.

You took my happiness and my joy away.
Gave me no chance to run wild and play.
When I was a child, just a little boy.
All you left me are meaningless toys.

I loathe you for defining my life.
You ask, I answer.
You win, I loose.
You find, I search.
You choose. You choose? You choose!

You chose a new wife.

Oh Happy Day

I wish everybody a happy day!
Why? Just because I feel like it :)

zaterdag 17 november 2012

I'm tired of bein' poor and even worse I'm black.

Yesterday I bought two new sweaters. Usually I don't really care much about fashion, but I'm very glad with the new sweaters :) And I'll show you why!

The first sweater I bought was the Tupac sweater. I don't know very much about Tupac, but of cours I know a few of his songs. 'Changes' is definitely my favourite song! The lyrics is magnicifent. It's quite simple, but that's the beauty of it. Everybody understands what he's singing about and is able to relate themselves to the story. Please, don't get me wrong by saying that the lyrics is quite simple. It is very difficult to create a song of good quality. You often want to use fancy and outstanding words to get everybody's attention and to lift the lyrics up to a higher level, but what happens is the opposite. People can't really relate to the story anymore and the rhythm gets disturbed. So, when I say simple, I actually say difficult.

We gotta make a change...
It's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes.
Let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live
and let's change the way we treat each other.
You see the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do
what we gotta do, to survive.

The second sweater I bought was the Muhammad Ali sweater. I fell in love right away :) He is such a great man and even a better boxer! His real name is Cassius Marcellus Clay and his nickname is Louisville Lip. Again, I don't know much about another great man. What I do know, is that Ali was really the greatest (another nickname) of all. He has played 61 matches. He won 56 times and lost only 5 times.

As I said, I don't know much about these two men, but I knew just enough to know that I bought two amazing sweaters. Both men have had a big influence (and still have) on the development of their worlds. One man changed the music-industry, the other changed the boxing-industry. These men have enought to be proud of, so I'm going to wear them with pride!

Hope is my addiction

Today I am celebrating my anniversary. No, not because I'm married or have a relationship with someone. Exactly one year ago I got my first tattoo :) It took a very long time before I got my tattoo, because I really wanted something that represents me as a person. My mother was pretty oke with me having a tattoo, but my father had more doubts. He was afraid that I would regret my decision, but that thought couldn't stop me. I mean, I can understand him being concerned, but it wasn't an idea that just came up in my mind. I was determined to commit myself to everlasting art..

The idea was to get a buddha tattoo, so I visited different tattoo shops in the neighborhood. Unfortunately everybody wasn't as excited as I was about my buddha tattoo. Of course the buddha itself wasn't the problem, but the size. They told me: 'the bigger the tattoo, the better the tattoo'. I was a bit disappointed, because the size they proposed was way too big and I wasn't ready to get a tattoo that big.

A few months later I returned to the best tattoo shop in town. I came up with this new idea, which suited me perfectly. Hope is really important to me. Without hope, I wouldn't have pushed myself so much and I wouldn't have achieved so many goals as I have achieved now. This tattoo represents my addiction and dedication to hope.

Many people disliked tattoo's in the old days, but over time the opinion's changed. Nowadays everybody has a tattoo. Well, I don't think there are so many people who have just one tattoo. I have heard people say that getting tattoo's is addictive and I can honestly say that those people are right! I can't wait until I get my second ;) But that's gonna take a while..

4 more years!

Thank God, Barack Obama has been re-elected!! I had this nightmare that Romney became the new President of the USA, so the moment I woke up I ran to the television to see if my dream was reality..
I saw 30 minutes of his speech and it really got into me.. I hope these 4 more years will have a great effect on Obama and America.

4 more years, people..

Although I live in the Netherlands I tried to support him!!

There is beauty in the world

I am glad to announce that my concert buddy Bente and I have planned another concert :) It has been a while since we went to a concert (since July to be precisely) In December we will go to a concert of Macy Gray, she will pay a tribute to the great musician Stevie Wonder. How cool is that?!

Bente and I have seen Macy Gray two times, both times at the North Sea Jazz event. Her first performance in 2010 was amazing. She was the last act of the day, so we had to wait for a long time. But the waiting had paid off, of course! There she was, performing in front of us. Her voice is one of a kind and her appearance was fabulous. Judge for yourself..

We also had the opportunity to get an autograph and we of cours took that opportunity!!
She signed her CD for me and I was very pleased with that :) "The Sellout" is a great album, especially the first 6 songs like 'kissed it' and 'beauty in the world'.

But don't forget her old songs like 'try', 'do something' and 'sweet baby'!! What can I say, we are really looking forward to the concert. I can't wait to hear her voice again and I'm curious what kind of clothes she's going to wear! Let us all raise our hands up in the air and give a big shout out to all the beauty in the world..

See you soon Macy

WTA Champs

My girl Serena Williams did it again: she came, she saw, she conquered!! It has been an amazing tennis season for Serena. She won Wimbledon, the US Open, the Olympic Games single and double golden medal and today she won the WTA Champs trophy with a 6-4 6-3 win over Maria Sharapova.

Every time I see her play, I get this warm feeling inside. I mean, she and her sister Venus have accomplished so much in their lifes. At the moment I'm reading the autobiography of Serena and I can definitely tell you that she worked so very hard to be here right now. Did you know that her parents have taught her and Venus everything out of a tennis guidebook! There is so much to read about her life :) I will keep you updated every now and then..

Serena and Venus win Wimbledon doubles final 2012

Serena wins Wimbledon 2012

Obama dominates everywhere

Need I say more? So please dear citizen of the US, vote for your future, vote for our future, vote for the future!

Yes we can do 2012!

"Everybody knows Michelle. The fact that we are partners in this process, this journey of life, has been my source of strength. And I want to make sure that she has control over her health care choices. I want to make sure that when she’s working, she is getting paid the same as men.
But also what I want to say is that gay and lesbian families are like everybody else; what they’re really also worried about right now is making sure they can pay the bills."

The great statements above are from Mr. Obama’s campaign speech. In my opinion everybody should have the same rights, whether you are a man, woman, gay, lesbian, Afro-American, Caucasian and so on. I wish I had the opportunity to vote for this man! So if you are reading my blog and are a citizen of the USA, I hope you'll vote for Obama. Together we can be the change!

Straighten up soldier

Yeah, I know sometimes things may not always make sense to you right now.
But hey, what daddy always tell you?

Straighten up little soldier
Stiffen up that upper lip
What you crying about?
You got me...

Did you recognize this intro? This is the intro of Eminem's song called 'Mockingbird'. In my opinion he is one of the best rappers out there, not because everybody says so, but because his words strike me! This intro is so important to me, because it inspired me to write a poem about the way some fathers treat their sons. The way men (in general) are expected to act and behave in situations: tough, sporty, fearless, you name it.. I admit, boys have some sort of difficulty to expres their emotions. My message: boys and men are allowed to be scared and vulnerable sometimes, to expres their emotions, because we are just humans after all. Think about it, how often do you get told to be tough, sporty, fearless, etc. To be something you really don't want to be.

Straighten up soldier

“Dad?”
“How is it that boys never cry in public?”
When I asked that question my dad frowned.
He stood up and moved his arm very quick.
With a sore feeling I fell on the ground.
He had dumped me like a useless brick.
I opened my eyes and touched my bleeding lip.
Warm cheeks, wet eyes and flabbergasted,
I realized my question was worth the fist.

Don’t ask, don’t tell is the policy for boys.
Tackle obstacles, clear the path is what we do.
Talk big, show no fear and make our own choice.
Runaway. Hideaway.

“Dad?”
“Why do boys have to hide their emotions?”
I never got an answer to this question.
My father couldn’t think in slow-motion.
He couldn’t put his feelings into words,
went outside to buy a gun and pulled the trigger.
I don’t know how to react when it hurts.
My emotions only crave for a father-figure.

Don’t ask, don’t tell is the policy for guys.
Straighten up, get mad and use our muscles.
Laugh away the pain and cover them with lies.
Runaway. Hideaway.

“Dad?”
“How do boys love?”
He turned his back towards me.
Liquor and drugs became my remedy.

Runaway. Hideaway.

Why do boys always have to straighten up as soldiers?

Alicia is on fire!

Yesterday Alicia dropped the official lyric video of Girl On Fire (Inferno Version) and I must say I love it! I'm a big fan of Alicia since her greatest hits like Fallin', If I ain't got you, Karma, etc. Her previous album 'The Element of Freedom' wasn't that appealing to me, but that doesn't make her less talented. One of my best lady friends ( check out her amazing blog: www.parismorningsnewyorknights.blogspot.com ) and I went to her concert two and a half years ago. We were so excited and thrilled to see her perform. I can't wait untill she'll release her new album in November. From what I've already heard, it will be damn good!

The dream begins

My first story. My first impression to you. I want to begin this dream with one of my greatest source of inspiration: Martin Luther King

His speech 'I have a dream' is very important to me! The speech gives you an extreme boost to live your life by your beliefs. But the best thing is that it gives you hope. Hope to fulfill your beliefs and to chase your dream..

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.
