WTA Champs

My girl Serena Williams did it again: she came, she saw, she conquered!! It has been an amazing tennis season for Serena. She won Wimbledon, the US Open, the Olympic Games single and double golden medal and today she won the WTA Champs trophy with a 6-4 6-3 win over Maria Sharapova.

Every time I see her play, I get this warm feeling inside. I mean, she and her sister Venus have accomplished so much in their lifes. At the moment I'm reading the autobiography of Serena and I can definitely tell you that she worked so very hard to be here right now. Did you know that her parents have taught her and Venus everything out of a tennis guidebook! There is so much to read about her life :) I will keep you updated every now and then..

Yes we can do 2012!

"Everybody knows Michelle. The fact that we are partners in this process, this journey of life, has been my source of strength. And I want to make sure that she has control over her health care choices. I want to make sure that when she’s working, she is getting paid the same as men.
But also what I want to say is that gay and lesbian families are like everybody else; what they’re really also worried about right now is making sure they can pay the bills."

The great statements above are from Mr. Obama’s campaign speech. In my opinion everybody should have the same rights, whether you are a man, woman, gay, lesbian, Afro-American, Caucasian and so on. I wish I had the opportunity to vote for this man! So if you are reading my blog and are a citizen of the USA, I hope you'll vote for Obama. Together we can be the change!

Straighten up soldier

Yeah, I know sometimes things may not always make sense to you right now.
But hey, what daddy always tell you?

Straighten up little soldier
Stiffen up that upper lip
What you crying about?
You got me...

Did you recognize this intro? This is the intro of Eminem's song called 'Mockingbird'. In my opinion he is one of the best rappers out there, not because everybody says so, but because his words strike me! This intro is so important to me, because it inspired me to write a poem about the way some fathers treat their sons. The way men (in general) are expected to act and behave in situations: tough, sporty, fearless, you name it.. I admit, boys have some sort of difficulty to expres their emotions. My message: boys and men are allowed to be scared and vulnerable sometimes, to expres their emotions, because we are just humans after all. Think about it, how often do you get told to be tough, sporty, fearless, etc. To be something you really don't want to be.

Straighten up soldier

“Dad?”
“How is it that boys never cry in public?”
When I asked that question my dad frowned.
He stood up and moved his arm very quick.
With a sore feeling I fell on the ground.
He had dumped me like a useless brick.
I opened my eyes and touched my bleeding lip.
Warm cheeks, wet eyes and flabbergasted,
I realized my question was worth the fist.

Don’t ask, don’t tell is the policy for boys.
Tackle obstacles, clear the path is what we do.
Talk big, show no fear and make our own choice.
Runaway. Hideaway.

“Dad?”
“Why do boys have to hide their emotions?”
I never got an answer to this question.
My father couldn’t think in slow-motion.
He couldn’t put his feelings into words,
went outside to buy a gun and pulled the trigger.
I don’t know how to react when it hurts.
My emotions only crave for a father-figure.

Don’t ask, don’t tell is the policy for guys.
Straighten up, get mad and use our muscles.
Laugh away the pain and cover them with lies.
Runaway. Hideaway.

“Dad?”
“How do boys love?”
He turned his back towards me.
Liquor and drugs became my remedy.

Runaway. Hideaway.

Why do boys always have to straighten up as soldiers?

Alicia is on fire!

Yesterday Alicia dropped the official lyric video of Girl On Fire (Inferno Version) and I must say I love it! I'm a big fan of Alicia since her greatest hits like Fallin', If I ain't got you, Karma, etc. Her previous album 'The Element of Freedom' wasn't that appealing to me, but that doesn't make her less talented. One of my best lady friends ( check out her amazing blog: www.parismorningsnewyorknights.blogspot.com ) and I went to her concert two and a half years ago. We were so excited and thrilled to see her perform. I can't wait untill she'll release her new album in November. From what I've already heard, it will be damn good!

The dream begins

My first story. My first impression to you. I want to begin this dream with one of my greatest source of inspiration: Martin Luther King

His speech 'I have a dream' is very important to me! The speech gives you an extreme boost to live your life by your beliefs. But the best thing is that it gives you hope. Hope to fulfill your beliefs and to chase your dream..

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at a table of brotherhood. I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state, sweltering with the heat of injustice and sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice. I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. I have a dream today.
